Frequently Asked Questions
In what areas are your services available?
Central and Northern New Jersey including Bergen, Morris, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.
Who needs In-Home care?
Elderly who live alone and need additional help with their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and want to stay at home rather than being institutionalized or live with relatives. In other cases, it could be people whose family caregiver needs a respite or time away from their caregiving responsibilities.
How do you select your caregivers?
Helpmates prides itself on having the finest quality of compassionate caregivers. At Helpmates, we understand that our distinguished clientele deserve the best quality of care for their loved ones and we guarantee each client that we will meet that expectation.
Only those caregivers who meet our requirements and company culture will be referred. All of our caregivers are carefully interviewed, screened, and background checked prior to becoming part of the Helpmates team.
Many of our caregivers are Certified Aides and Compananions. In addition, attention is given to the overall personality of the caregiver during the hiring process. Only those caregivers with that special "soft touch" sensitive type of personality are considered for hiring.
How long does it take to get a caregiver?
We can meet with you for an initial interview to assess your needs. After we fully understand what you are looking for, we can place a caregiver within a very short period of time (usually 24 hrs). We are continuously interviewing, qualifying, and training caregivers to be sure we can meet your particular needs.
What if my caregiver is sick or goes on vacation?
We offer a maintenance program that can provide you with replacement coverage when your main caregiver needs time off. Allow us to provide continuous 7 day care in case of caregiver sickness, an emergency or simply, weekend relief.
Can I meet the caregiver in advance?
Of course. Part of our service is being able to match the right caregiver with the personality of your loved one. We cover this topic during the initial interview so we can get a head start on selecting the right caregiver. We are very good at building relationships!
How much does the service cost?
Each patient has a unique set of care needs and therefore the exact cost of care must be determined after the initial consultation with one of our case managers. We have affordable and competitive rates. Helpmates is primarily a fee based agency. Please give us a call or contact us online and one of our client care managers will contact you soon to discuss our services.
Who pays the caregiver and how do they get paid?
Most caregivers are your employees and are not employees of Helpmates. We recommend paying home healthcare employees at the end of each week pursuant applicable law.
Why should I use your service instead of someone in the newspaper?
There are multiple reasons why going with our service is preferable:
What kind of care is the correct kind of care for your loved one?
“Long-term care” means helping people of any age with their medical needs or daily activities over a long period of time. Long-term care can be provided at home, in the community, or in various types of facilities. When you look for long-term care, it is important to remember that quality varies from one place to another. It is also important to think about long-term care before a crisis occurs. Making long-term care decisions can be hard even when planned well in advance.
Do I need to move Mom or Dad into a nursing home?
Many times people believe that when their loved ones can no longer function 100% of the time by themselves, it is necessary to “institutionalize” them by moving them into a nursing home or assisted living facility. This can be not only the wrong decision for your loved one, but very expensive and not necessarily the correct way to handle the situation. Additionally, most seniors prefer to remain in their home as long as possible and generally remain happier in their traditional surroundings.
How soon can you send a caregiver to my home?
We are often able to provide next day placements, depending upon the care required.
Who is the employer of Helpmates Staffing caregiver?
The caregiver Helpmates provides is your employee, not an employee of Helpmates.
What shifts can my Helpmates caregiver work?
Helpmates provides from 5-hour 5 day shifts to live-in care.
What is the difference between a live-in and 24-hour care?
A live-in is a caregiver who lives in a client's home on a 5-7 day basis. A live-in provides the appropriate level of personal care and support services for a client who needs the security of another person in his/her home, but does not require shifts of care. Live-in caregivers provide safety and companionship. If a client needs a live-in caregiver 7 days a week, generally one person works for 12 straight days on average and another for 2-4 days.
